Alleghany Foundation Grants $150,000 to The Masonic Theatre Preservation Foundation to construct an Amphitheatre on the property behind the Theatre.

Students from Virginia Tech's design/buildLab will design and build the Amphitheatre under the instruction of architects/instructors, Keith and Marie Zawistowski.  The Zawistowskis are the architects for the restoration of The Historic Masonic Theatre.  Read more about the Amphitheatre project by clicking here.

106-Year-Old Masonic Building Blue Prints Resurface

The original Blueprint drawings of the Historic Masonic Theatre by the Lynchburg architectural firm of Frye and Chesterman, once thought lost or destroyed, resurfaced this week (February 4, 2011) in a building down the street from the theatre.  The drawings were found in the safe of the building which was constructed around the same time period of the theatre.  The Blueprints are in excellent condition and dated May 6, 1905.

Opened as an opera house and Mason Hall in 1905, the Historic Masonic Theatre has served the Alleghany Highlands for 105 years as a performing arts theatre and for a short time, a movie theatre.  Steeped in local history the Historic Masonic has hosted Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Tex Ritter, Hopalong Cassidy in addition to legends such as Burl Ives, the Drifters and the world famous Count Basie Orchestra.  The Theatre is undergoing renovation to restore it to its former glory to serve the entertainment and community needs of the Clifton Forge and Alleghany Highlands community.
